NITI Ayuga published report; Odisha has fallen

Odisha has slipped from 15th to 19th last year in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) standard released by the NITI Ayuga for 2020-21. Although its composite score has improved from 58 to 61, it remains among the top five states, including Nagaland and Chhattisgarh. Opposition BJP and Congress blamed the Naveen Patnaik government after Odisha slipped four places in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) rankings released by the NITI Ayuga for 2020-21 and was listed among the top five states. The performance of the states was assessed from 16 SDGs - poverty, hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality and peace, justice and firm institutions. "Odisha is one of the top five states in the NITI Ayuga's SDG report. "It's embarrassing and unfortunate for us," said Bhubaneswar MP and BJP leader Aparajita Sadangi. “I am surprised that Andhra Pradesh has 9.2 per cent of the population living below the national poverty line. In the Bhubaneswar parliamentary constituency, many families have yet to get permanent housing under the government scheme. At least 14.2% or 1 crore people live in raw houses in Odisha, compared to only 6% in West Bengal and 3.2% in Andhra Pradesh. The central government has sanctioned millions of permanent houses in Odisha.

The BJP leader said Odisha was sixth in the list of 28 states in the Zero Hunger category for sustainable development. "In the state, 29 per cent of children under the age of 5 are malnourished," the report said. In addition, 47.6 PC pregnant women and 29.5 PC adolescents are anemic. "The state is 11th in terms of gender equality. There are 103.5% of criminal cases against women in the state. According to the report, 103 out of every 100,000 women in the state are being exploited. Violence against women has been on the rise since 2015. He complained that the BJP government had failed to ensure the safety and security of women. Odisha ranks second among 28 states in terms of economic growth Despite doing various programs like ‘Make in Odisha’, the state easily secured zero in doing business. "In the 'No Poverty' category, Odisha's population has not improved below the poverty line (32.59 PCs), health insurance (47.7 PCs) and poor households (14.2 PCs)," he said. Odisha is one of the worst performers in terms of efficiency and economic growth. It has also made progress in descent work and economic growth with only 11.92 bank branches and 15.72 ATMs per 100,000 population. "Demand for employment under MGNREGA has also declined slightly," he said. State Congress president Niranjan Patnaik said the BJP may not face redress, but the reality is that the people of Odisha will suffer. "Congratulations to the BJP government. In the SDG India Index of the NITI Ayuga, Odisha has now dropped from 16th to 21st place, he tweeted. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all member states of the United Nations as a nationwide challenge in 2015 to eradicate poverty, ensure security and enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

BJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Patnaik, however, complained that there could be some inconsistency in the preparation of the SDG standard. "The SDG report is not a political report. It should not be used to play dirty politics, but to use it for further development It is unfortunate that the BJP is engaging in politics, even if the report does not go into detail. The BJP MP said the information provided by the state in the SDG report was not taken into account.
