Warning ; Don't Install Fake OXYMETER app on your phone

Tamil Nadu Police has warned people against downloading the fake oximeter app amid the rise in demand for oximeters due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Police said this could lead to the theft of personal and biometric data from their phones.

In an advisory issued in this regard, Tamil Nadu Police said, "Such a hoax is being carried out by cyber criminals through a fake oximeter app." It is being claimed that the oxygen level in the blood can be measured with the app.

The advisory said that fake apps claiming to measure oxygen level in blood with fingerprint sensor send SMS to the user as soon as they download it. In this, permission is asked from them to access various features of the mobile.

If allowed, they can steal OTPs, phone passwords, card details, photos, phone numbers and even biometric information and use them for banking and using other sensitive apps on the phone.

Police said, these apps claim to measure the oxygen level in the blood on the basis of placing a finger on the camera and shining a torch on the finger. During this, suspicious apps take your fingerprints and can take advantage of it wrongly.
